Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is an American former basketball coach and former professional basketball player who is universally acknowledged as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He had represented the Milwaukee Bucks (1969–1975) and the Los Angeles Lakers (1975–1989) in the NBA. During his illustrious career, he won the NBA Championship 6 times (1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988). He was named the NBA ‘Finals MVP’ twice (1971, 1985), the NBA ‘Most Valuable Player’ 6 times (1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980), and an NBA ‘All-Star’ 19 times (1970–1977, 1979–1989). He was included in the ‘All-NBA First Team’ 10 times (1971–1974, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1984, 1986), the ‘All-NBA Second Team’ 5 times (1970, 1978, 1979, 1983, 1985), the ‘NBA All-Defensive First Team’ 5 times (1974, 1975, 1979–1981), and the ‘NBA All-Defensive Second Team’ 6 times (1970, 1971, 1976–1978, 1984). In 2012, he had been selected by the government of the United States to be its ‘Global Cultural Ambassador’. In 2016, he was honored with the ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom’, among the highest civilian awards in the United States.
